Cousin Invasion!

We’ve had Cousin Invasion at the Mil-Mar!  We also have two new nieces that have joined the Wright Family.  I think I’d like to keep them. :)

By the Dawn’s Early Light

DSCN1439

What can you see? By the Dawn’s Early Light?

 DSCN1433

You might not be able to – But I saw a racoon swimming in the water. Zoom didn’t really help. Just turned him into a fuzzy coon.

DSCN1450

This morning I headed into the woods on a friend’s property, instead of the beach.  We walked into a clearing, with a canopy of branches, ground soft with moss, moss clinging to every space of all different colors.  And I felt it. It was beautiful. and Still. An Awesome.  The Presence.  Have you felt it at Crystal Peaks? At your special spot? My friend told me  why – but it is her her story, not my blog’s, and I allowed the mosquitoes to have breakfast on my legs and feet while tears came to my eyes. Then, 4-5 LARGE buck deer hopped out from in front of us, over the ravine – and up the hillside.  They stayed. Silent. Trusting. It was hard to leave this spot this morning.

I think I will find myself here again.

  DSCN1453

This is the root structure from a huge tree that fell in a storm to form a natural bridge across the ravine. There is no picture I could take to show you how HUGE this and Awesome this is!

When you go through a storm.  And you feel broken.  What bridges are built?  What new growth comes up?  Makes one ponder.

DSCN1444

The sky was painted in a vivid pink line – mirrored in the calm still lake.  I couldn’t help singing – Oh Say Can You See???? By the Dawns Early Light .. .   And – thinking of our Freedom Day coming up – It always makes me feel ashamed at what I do with my freedom.  I am feeling urged to be more vocal with our personal journey – with my personal faith – and with homeschooling (which sort of wraps up the first two topics)

What freedoms are you thankful for? Wished you used more?

The pic of this old growth stump just doesn’t give it justice.

Dads and Homeschooling

I have listened to and read several conversations this week about Dads and Homeschooling – Mostly of moms who are burned out, tired, at the end of a long school year – ready to pass the baton of learning to anyone – hopefully their spouse. Longing for what they perceive that other dads are doing – hoping for more.

In our home – we both agree that keeping the boys home for their education and childhood is best.  He encourages me in all that I do – offers praise and adoration to the efforts made by the boys and I.

But the day to day grammar, geography, writing, math, history – is usually what I put out there.  I am the one who has constantly trained to be a teacher for these past 9 or 10 years. He has honed his craft of employment. Of being a great manager. Of learning to deal with the public. Of being a motivator to his employees. Of earning a living so that I can stay home.

What day can I go to work for him? What day can he take a nap? What day can he choose not to work – I can give Saxon or Miquon a break any day we choose.  Do more tomorrow.

My husband is time. He is listening. He is sharing his stories.  He is reading the night time stories. He is sharing in the squishy yucky things. He is the one to giggle at the boy jokes – to teach them the boy jokes. He is the one to Praise the Fart. :)

I took this photo this week – that made me ponder all of these things.

Homeschool Dad ConversationsDarren came home from work and walked down to the dock to greet us.  This day – I didn’t have dinner ready – most evenings I do. I work the day to make him be relaxed at home. What do you do to make room for your husband to spend time with his children? Do you hover? Do you monitor the conversations? Roll the Eyes? I will never know what conversation was so important that it pulled Jon out of the water, away from his friends, to have this chat. It is for his Dad.

Wanna know what Dad wants for Father’s Day?  To be a Dad. To have the freedom of conversation. To have a wife that adores him. To not be monitored. To be free to come and go and purchase and talk – without censor. To decide. To not be argued with. To be valued. To be adored.  Give them time – to be with their children.  Let them build the zip line too high. Let them drive the boat too fast. Let them buy the ice cream before dinner. Let them enjoy their drink of choice. Let . Them. Be.  And then Love them For it!

New Hobby – Catching BullHeads

The boys have figured out that there are quite a few Bullheads living underneath our dock.  A few little tugs of the line with a worm, and up comes a bullhead!  They caught 7 of them last evening and quite a few this afternoon.  They are catch and release, the hook barely goes through their lip, logs of fun and tugs. :) Finally a fish to catch from the dock.  They even sit in the boat to do it – to make it official fishing and all I suppose. :)

Ducklings for my Birthday

A new family of ducklings came to see me for my birthday today!  The dark bill throws me – I’m not sure that they are mallard, but the bill seems too narrow for shoveler.  What do you think?

Fish Larvae / Larval at Devil’s Lake

We had a surprise for us at the dock  on June 9th!  BaJillions of fish larval in the water. Swarms of them, bajillions.  All the way along the deck, in masses around the pilings.  Faster than the camera could capture.  We have been told that our dock is a Bass Fish Breeding Ground.  Could these be some type of Bass Larval?  What do you think?

It’s not all cannon balls and sunburns . . . . .

DSCN0229

This is about as high and far as the fog has been all day.  The waves have been at 1-2 feet today – churning. Grey. Choppy. Sigh. Just so ya don’t think we swim every day. :)
